         January Travel and Fun report

Welcome, campers and friends, to the New Year.  We hope you enjoy clear skies and warm nights wherever you park your rig.

Earle and Cathy Johnson and Ed and Judy Lively hosted the annual Christmas dinner at the Lodge on December 13th.  Another great dinner, wonderful company and mints.  (But who's idea was it to pass out desert prior to the main course.  I know one diner who must have ate three or four.)

Thanks, hosts and special thanks for the table decorations  Martha Stewart-like candle holders and gift boxes (and Judy, you really should market those).  And the fun selection of door prizes in the boxed.  Watch out for Maxine's scooter.  Thanks also to Joyce Cordova for passing out those mints.

I was surprised at the number of no-shows, but hope to see everyone next year.  Mark your calendar for the 13th.

February's Valentine Brunch is our other big indoor outing.  Stephanie Dunmire and Darrell Schmittler are the 2003 hosts.  (He is retiring, so he'll have plenty of time to work on the event.)  The Brunch will be Sunday, February 9th at the Cloverleaf, 10 am, price TBD.  For reservations, please call Stephanie at 360-792-0472 or email her at pennyc72@attbi.com.

March 13-16 we will be at the home park hosted by Ben and Marcella Peterson.  And April 10-13 at the Port Townsend Elks hosted by Gary and Sherie Lewis, Dick and Stella Davis, and Gary and Chris Blankenship (if they are not in Texas.)

In early 2001 after the 1999 NW Rally held at the fairgrounds, the club appointed a committee now chaired by Gary Lewis to recommend projects to improve the 1181 RV park.  Past projects have included:  Painting the kitchen, fire place screen, new chairs, ceiling insulation to name a few.

In November and December, with Gary's supervision, Travel and Fun has nearly completed several major projects in the park:  An area was prepared for a sidewalk from the shelter to restrooms, including a new curtain drain.  (As of this writing, the sidewalk is not yet in, which is why the projects are "nearly.")  The restroom privacy shields were repaired.    The water system was revised to allow year-round use of the shelter.  The entire park was graded and three loads of gravel placed to expand the parking lot.  The grade on the North sites was lowered.

Gary's workers included Travel and Fun members:  Dick Davis, Wayne Bernhard, Carl Buettgenbach, Wes Tallman, Gary Blankenship, Merle Lewis, Willie Wischhoefer, Bill Green and Bud Maves.  (Lorene Brannan also supervised.)

Also assisting were Joe Showman, plumber; Perry Brochner and Aaron Bernhard.  Aaron provided the tractor used to prepare the sidewalk area.  Ace Paving provided the grading, gravel and will be installing the sidewalk.

On behalf of the Club and campers who may use the park, thanks, crew.  We really appreciate the labor and backaches you gave to these projects.  And if you see an Ace truck on the road, wave.

Gary is planning for additional projects in 2003.  If you have suggestions, please let him know them.

SUNSHINE:  Darlene Green reports no illnesses or injuries came her way.

Thanks, Darlene for your reports these past years.  The new sunshine chair is Joyce Cordova at 360-981-0830 or ricocord@aol.com.

Dues are due.

The January regular meeting is Monday, the 13th at 7:00 pm.  We gather for conversation at 6, if not earlier.  Guests are welcome at the meeting or any of Travel and Fun's events.

If you have comments or suggestions, call 373-6416 or email garydawg@msn.com.
