May Travel Column

Welcome to spring, though as I write this column, winter seems to be trying to hang around.

We need to catch up to outing news.  March 13-16, Vern and Lorreta Rott, Bud and Lorraine Maves and Al and Bea Sande hosted a St Paddy's Day outing at the home park.  Corned beef, cabbage, soda bread and card bingo with a great time had by all.

April 10-13, Gary and Sherie Lewis, Dick and Stella Davis, Darell and Stephanie Schmittler, and Gary and Chris Blankenship hosted an outing at our Brother Lodge 317 in Port Townsend.  The hosts provided biscuits and gravy breakfast Friday (with leftovers Sunday morning); fiesta appetizers, lime and strawberry libations and taco salad Saturday for happy hour and dinner. After dinner, the campers played several rounds of a new dice game - Left-Right-Center - with the big winners Dick Davis, Elaine Buetgenbach, Natilie Miller, Joyce Cordova and Bill Green twice.  The evening was topped off with vanilla ice cream and Stella's date bars and cookies.  Best costume was Maxine Grevstad.

Friday was dinner at Randall's, Lodge 317 chef and Saturday hamburgers.  If you have not visited the Port Townsend lodge, we highly recommend you do. The food is great and lodge members are very friendly.  (In appreciation of all they have done for Travel and Fun, we are donating a clock for their new rv park shelter.)

May's outing will be the 15th to 18th at E and J Resorts at Ellensburg (on Berry Road just off the Canyon Road (109) exit).  Hosts will be Wayne and Vivian Bernhard, Bud and Lorriane Maves, and Keith, Liz and Jack Brown. Breakfast Friday morning will be provided by the hosts, dinner that day will be potluck.  Saturday the hosts are cooking up a Western Trail Dinner and ask that campers dress in their best cowboy attire.  There is a hotel on site at $60 per night and the camping fee is $15.

June's outing is the 12th-15th at Kampers West in Warrenton, OR.  The hosts, Bill and Juanita Spong are planning surprises, but it looks as if another of Bill's famous hor d'oeuvre contests is on the schedule.  As of this writing, sign-ups for the outing were a bit light; so if you wish to go, please call Bill or Juanita at 895-8797.

July finds Travel and Fun at the big NW Elks RV Rally at the Gray's Harbor Fairgrounds in Elma.  The rally will be the 3rd to 6th with early arrivals on Wednesday the 2nd if campers wish.  Merle Lewis and Lorene Brannan will host.  Janice Watson, chair of the Country store needs items to sell - books, crafts, do-dads.  Bring them to the May or June meetings.  Bill Spong is also collecting woodworking and other crafty items.

At each rally, this Club and the Rally raffle items.  Mary Grevstad has donated an afghan for 1181 to raffle, and Stephanie Schmittler a basket and Chris Blankenship a 50 amp cord for the Rally to give away.

Sunshine chair, Joyce Cordova, reported on illness for Basil Barrett and Bud Maves, and on the passing of Jim Lee's brother.  If you have sunshine news, please call Joyce at 36-981-0830 or email fleetwoodelk@netzero.com.

Dick and Stella need folks to sell swing set raffle tickets at Hamburgers on the Patio in May and June.  At the April meeting, sales were about a quarter of what they would like to see.  Ed Lively needs hamburger cooks for May 17, 26 and 31.

Dues are of course due.

The May regular meeting is Monday the 12th, gathering at 6 pm and the meeting at 7.  Guests are welcome as they are at any Club function.  Prior to the May meeting, Chuck Arnold of PowerShop will be available to answer rv questions.

If you have comments or suggestions, call 373-6416 or email garydawg@msn.com.
