TRAVEL 'N FUN COLUMN

Travel N Fun Column June 2009

The 2009 swing set, created and crafted by Darrell Schmittler, is now in the Lodge lobby.  The set is two swinging chairs.  Drop by and check it out.  Tickets are $1 each and can be obtained from Travel club members and at the Lodge front desk.  They will also be sold at the Car Show and BPOE Family Picnic.  The drawing will be at the Picnic.

And the new sign is in place for the Wischoefer Memorial RV Park – also worth checking out.

The April 16-19 outing at the Port Townsend Elks was attended by 20 rigs with 18 arriving Wednesday.  Thursday was dinner on your own, but most of the group went to the Pt. Townsend Elks for a delicious fish/shrimp and chips dinner.  Friday, the Elks Club served Prime Rib, and Saturday morning the hosts served biscuits and gravy.  No one went hungry. The weather cleared up on Saturday in time for a Margarita party and camp fire (and lots of great hors d'oeuvres).  Thanks to hosts Darrell and Stephanie Schmittler and Gary and Sherie Lewis.

The June outing is scheduled for the 17th to 20th at the Bayshore RV Park in Tokeland.  Hosts will be the Josephsons, Schmittlers and VanZees.  Those who did not pay a deposit by the May deadline must make their own reservations by calling Bayshore at 1-800-638-7555.  Thursday bring items to stuff into baked potatoes or a salad, Friday will be dinner by the hosts and Saturday will be a heavy hors d'oeuvres potluck.  Any questions, call Kathy Josephson at 360-692-8642.

The 41st Northwest Elks' RV Rally sign-up packets have arrived.  If you would like to attend but will not be at a meeting, please contact Lorene Brannan at (360) 373-7936.  She must receive your check and registration by 10 June or an additional $10.00 (penalty) must be included with your registration.  The Rally will be July 16-19 at the Land Yacht Harbor in Lacey Washington.  All RV spots have water, power and sewer hookups.  Registration includes your RV spot for three nights, three continental breakfasts, two catered dinners, games and live onstage entertainment.    The registration fee for a rig with 2 people is $205, $150 for a rig with one person.  (Early arrivals must pay for extra nights.)  Friday morning golf (18 holes) at the Capitol City Golf Course is $45 per person plus cart fee if needed.

We need hardbacks, paperbacks, cookbooks, jigsaw puzzles, DVD’s, CD’s and VHS to sell in our Rally Country Store booth.  For pick-up call Gary Lewis (360) 692-6505 or Gary Blankenship (360) 373-6416 or bring them to a meeting.  Please no encyclopedias or magazines.

Our August outing will be at GlenAyr Resort at Hoodsport, hosted by the Blankenships and Lewis’s.  Reservations for this outing will be a little different than usual.  Bremerton Elks travel club has a reservation at the park but each member must make their own reservations with the park by July 19th.  Contact GlenAyr at 1-866-877-9522 informing them you are part of Bremerton Elks Travel Club group.  They will ask you for a credit card just to hold your space, it will not be charged.  Upon check-in you can pay by whatever means you wish; cash, check, or card.  GlenAyr will send you a confirmation that will list their standard RV spot rate but once they know how many rigs are checking in they will apply a discount when you check in.  PLEASE contact Sherie or Gary Lewis at 360-692-6505 when you have registered so we have a count of attendees for planning purposes.

Let Lorene Brannan know if you have any Sunshine news.

DUES ARE DUE.  Make dues payments to Kathy Josephson at a meeting or call her for mailing instructions.

Remember the July, August and September general meetings will potlucks at the shelter.

The June meeting will be Monday, the 8th at the Lodge at 7 pm.  We usually get to together for greetings after 5.
