TRAVEL 'N FUN REMINDER

December 2010 Travel N Fun Column

Our sympathies to the family and friends of Maxine Grevstad. We’ll miss your smile, warmth.

Lot’s of good winter outings coming up, fun for all:  Friday, December 10th, Christmas Dinner at the Lodge, hosted by Stephanie Schmittler (360-275-6314), Barb Fallehy (360-405-9141) and Karen Belling.  Dinner will begin at 5 (earlier than in November’s column).  Diner choices are prime rib or salmon, both @ $23.00 per dinner. Make checks payable to Travel-n-Fun.

Saturday, January 15th, the 2nd Annual Aviator Lane Card Party, hosted by Ed and Sandy Hall (360-830-3051).  Chicken, mac salad, pop and coffee will be provided. Please RSVP to the above phone number with your dessert, salad, bread or appetizer potluck choice and for directions.  (BYOB)  The games will start at noon with dinner about 2 and the 2nd round of games at 3.

Sunday, February 6th, Valentine Brunch at Clearwater Casino, hosted by Gary and Sherie Lewis (360-692-6505). Brunch will begin at 9:30.  The price will be determined later, but should be about $15 per person plus tip.)

Monday, January 10th, the regular monthly meeting.  Business starts at 7, but come early to meet and greet.

October 21st to 24th was the annual Officer’s Outing at Rest-a-While in Hoodsport.  Some campouts seem to be the gold standard of outings.  This outing could be one. Hosted by your 2010 officers, it featured three host made meals with two desserts.

Sherie and Stephanie (assisted by Barb and Karen) cooked Friday’s prime rib dinner followed by Sherie’s super cherry trifle.  Saturday morning, they baked egg casseroles.  Saturday’s dinner was Chris Blankenship’s always excellent shrimp gumbo accompanied by Gary Blankenship’s banana/vanilla wafer pudding.  Outside the park, we also enjoyed great meals at local restaurants – the Tides and the Model T Pub.

For pudding or gumbo recipes, email Sherie at saglewis@comcast.net or Chris and Gary at garydawg@msn.com or phone them.

Our 7th annual Push Poker Tournament champion was Judy Gertsch with Darrell Schmittler second and 2008 champion Jerry Drumm third.  Winners of the “loser” brackets were Dave Gertsch, Gary Blankenship and Ed Hall.

Cathy Higdon hosted (assisted by Dan Grasser, Patti Myers and Chris Blankenship) the annual Thanksgiving dinner.  There was great holiday fare prepared by the Lodge and lots of cool door prizes.  The Club raffled a porcelain Christmas statue made by Patti with the proceeds of $167 going to Tall Elks.  The raffle was won by Lue Turner.

There are lots of great outings scheduled for next year and we need hosts for most:  March at the Home Park, May at Lacey, June at Glen Ayr Hoodsport, July at the Lacey rally, November for the Thanksgiving dinner, and December at the Christmas dinner.

SUNSHINE: Reported was illness or injury for Bill Spong, Jim Brooks and Jerry Drumm.   Call Sherie if you have any Sunshine news.

For dues payment or membership information, call Karen Belling, 360-692-6804.   Prospective members are always welcome as guests at outings or meetings.

Historian Karen needs outing pictures, rosters, etc for the Club records.
