TRAVEL 'N FUN REMINDER

March 2011 Travel N Fun column

January 15th, a large group of campers attended a card party at Ed and Sandy Hall’s hanger.  Great food, cards and fun.  We played a new version of washers using paint cans and got to watch a nervous Dan Grasser root for his Steelers.

February 6th was Valentine’s Brunch at Clearwater Casino.  Our hosts were Gary and Sherie Lewis.  Twenty-eight members and guests joined in for a great buffet and many stayed to try their luck at the machines.  It was great to see old friends who have been missing for a time.  Perhaps best of all - gift bags with Brenda Lewis baked cookies.

March, and hopefully a warm spring (though our weather compared to others is great).  The March outing is at the Home Park on the 23th to 27th hosted by Cathy Higdon, Dan Grasser and the Blankenships.  The outing will include a craft day with decoupage on plates and jars.  And a spaghetti dinner on Friday, Hall’s new washer game, and breakfast Sunday morning.

April we are at the Port Townsend Elks on the 13th through 17th, the outing hosted by the Gertschs and Lillybridges.  May 11th to 15th will find us in Lacey at the Land Yacht harbor, our hosts Kathy Josephson and the Harpers.  At the May outing, the main business will be preparing for the July 20th to 24th NW Elks Rally hosted by Travel N Fun 1181.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Sam Josephson at the Shelter on May 7th from 1 to 4 pm.

We still need hosts for the June 22nd to 26th outing at Glen Ayr in Hoodsport.  If you wish to hotel, Glen Ayr’s rooms are very nice. Whether you attend with or without a rig, call 360-877-9522 for reservations. Reservations must be made by May 25 by the individual campers.  A credit card is required for the first night’s deposit.  Master reservation is under Bremerton Elks Travel N Fun.

A cookie contest is being considered for the June outing.  The Port Townsend Elk’s RV club will be camping at Glen Ayr with us.

Once again, at the Rally, 1181 will open its highly successful book store.  Save your paperbacks, hardback novels, nonfiction and cookbooks, children’s books, CDs, DVDs audio books and jigsaw puzzles.  Please no magazines, encyclopedias, or condensed books.  Needlework, wood and other crafts are welcome.

If you are interested in working for the Rally, contact Gary Lewis at 360-692-6505.  If you have golf carts available for loan to the Rally, call Gary.

Travel guides for all regions of the country – West, Central, Northeast and South – are available for purchase at the Lodge front desk.

Dues are due.  Call Kathy Josephson (360-692-8642) for dues payment or membership information.   Prospective members are always welcome as guests at outings or meetings.

SUNSHINE:  Chair Sherie Lewis reported illness for Larry Watson. Call Sherie if you have any Sunshine news.

Historian Karen Belling needs outing pictures, rosters, etc for the Club records.
