TRAVEL 'N FUN REMINDER

November 2011 Travel N Fun column
Congratulations to long time member Bill Spong for his selection as June 2011 Elk of the Month.
In August we traveled to Midday RV in Centralia for an absolutely outstanding outing hosted by the Arns, Lotts and Blankenships.  Friday, several enjoyed the art at Dick’s Brewery.  For dinner, Chris provided homemade vegetable beef soup with sandwiches/wraps and cakes for desert.  Dinner was followed by rousing games of left/right/center.
Saturday, the campers continued to search for locations in a drive-around scavenger hunt.  In the afternoon, many campers visited the Dick Busek car museum in nearby Glavin. The museum is a private collection of vintage autos, primarily of Ford manufacture.
We headed to the East for dinner.  Our tables were decorated with Oriental ware and flowers and there were geishas.  Betty Arns and her cooks provided a menu of orange chicken, Chinese slaw (Linda Harmon), fried rice (Brenda Lewis), Mochi ice cream balls with green tea sponge cake (Anita Bernhard),  and fortune cookies.
A special thanks to Anita for sharing her decorations, flowers and costumes for the geishas and for all those who pitched in decorate the room and tables.
After dinner, the travelers were amazed and entertained by the results of the scavenger hunt.  The biggest laugh went to Dave and Judy Gertsch for “cock crows.”  You need to ask them what they found.
Near several of our campgrounds are superior cafes.  Two are highly recommended:   Judy’s Country Kitchen next to Midway and the Tides a short walk from Hoodsport’s Rest-a-While.

Monday, November 14, will be the Thanksgiving dinner at the Lodge.  Hosts will be Ed and Sandy Hall.  We will gather at 5, eat at 6, and hold the general meeting after the entertainment.  Dinner will be the traditional turkey with all the trimmings.  There will be a  raffle of a Patti Myer porcelain clown.  Dinner cost is $16.50 per person.  Please pay Sandy Hall (360-830-3051) by the 7th.  For dinners, checks should be made out to Travel N Fun.

Friday, December 9 at 5:30 pm, will be the Christmas dinner at the lodge.  Join us for libation at 4:30.  Hosts will be Brenda Lott, Sherie Lewis and Stephanie Schmittler.
