August Travel N Fun Report

A very special thanks to Larry Watson for penning these pages while yours truly was in the North.  A truly outstanding job, Larry

Don’t forget Family Day at the Lodge, Sunday, August 1.  The swing set will be raffled during the day; and the club needs members to sell tickets to the Family Day celebrants.

And August 9 is the Great 25th Anniversary Celebration at the Shelter starting at 2 pm.  Food will be served at 4. The menu is chicken or salmon (and cake). Travel N Fun is providing everything but your chair and liquid refreshments.  There will be a sort meeting at 7.

June 17th to 20th, the Club traveled to the Swiss Society RV Park at Lebam.  Our report on the outing comes from hostess Bea Sande:

There were eleven rigs from Bremerton and nine from Port Townsend 317’s Wapiti Nomads RV Club, our guests for the outing.  Hosts were Vern and Loretta Rott, Ann Smith and Allen and Bea Sande.

Most of 1181 arrived on Wednesday greeted by beautiful weather that continued for the rest of the outing.  Most of those arriving Wednesday had a gourmet dinner at the tavern nearby.  Thursday, two couples arrived and joined us for happy hour and hors d ’oeuvres.  Friday, were joined by seven more from Port Townsend.

Dinner was served by the hosts.  Since it was very warm weather, our dinner of hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, watermelon, cake and ice cream was a big hit.  Saturday morning, the Nomads served a great breakfast of biscuits and gravy, eggs, hash browns, juice and fruit.

Saturday, a large part of the day was spent with a bocce ball tournament between 317 and 1181 with Port Townsend winning tow out of three games.  I guess we really need practice – or they are lucky!.  Saturday night we shared potluck and card bingo.

Sunday morning was leftovers and goodbye to our friends.  We had a great outing, made some nice friends, shared good times and wonderful weather.

July 15 to 18 as we went to press, we traveled to Hood River for the annual northwest Elks Rally.  We will give you the full details next month.  August’s outing scheduled for the Columbia Riverfront RV Park has been moved to the Hoquiam River RF Park.  The dates – 19 to 22 are the same.  Hosts will be Bill and Juanita Spong.  Plans are being made, but look for Frisbee Golf.

September 23 takes us to the Yakama Nation RV Park at Toppenish.  Hosts will be the Schmittlers, Josephsons and Goulds.  October 21 will start the last outing of the year – the Officer’s at Hoodsport.  While we finish the bass?

Sunshine: Chairperson Cindy Varsafsky reported on Wavil Willhite.

It is not too early to volunteer for September Hamburgers on the Patio, Travel N Fun’s other month.

Only two nominees have stepped forward for t2005 offices; Stephanie Schmittler for VP and the Blankenship’s for wagonmasters.   If you are interested in an office, call President Sherie Lewis at 692-6505

It is good to be home after 6000 miles and nearly two months in Canada an Alaska.  In the short time, we were gone, some changes occurred in Bremerton, and a lot didn’t.  A journal of the adventure is at the Travel N Fun website, http://elks1181rvclub.homstead.com/ under newsletters.
