December Travel N Fun Column

Our sympathies to the family and friends of Wavil Wilhite for their loss.

From the first delicious meal at the Tide’s Restaurant to the last jigsaw puzzle piece Sunday morning, the October Officer’s outing at Rest-a-while in Hoodsport was great.  Campers started arriving Wednesday the 20th on into Friday and a surprise visit by Chris and Maxine Grevstad.  Friday morning started with a host provided pancake breakfast.  In the evening, the Club enjoyed another wonderful meal of pork roast and all the trimmings from Diane’s Catering.  After dinner, Sam Josephson called several rousing rounds of Card Bingo.  Cindy Varsafsky won the largest pot.

Saturday, the hosts provided a hearty lunch to go with oysters from the campground.  Dinner that evening was supposed to be light potluck, but you know this crowd…!  After the not-at-all-light meal, Track Steward and Race Marshall Gary Lewis set up and called four races among Travel N Fun’s speedy steeds and their jockeys.  Winners were jockey Stella Davis riding Slewfoot; Al Sande on Swayback; Darlene Green on Green-as-Grass; and Natalie Miller on Nat’s Nag.  The other jockeys who placed (or was it showed) were Bea Sande riding Queenie, and Loretta Rott on Lost in the Backstretch.

The tote board was manned by Sherie Lewis and Bill and Cindy Varsafsky.

During the weekend, Chris and Maxine celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary and Dick and Natalie Miller their 62nd.

Thanks to hosts Gary and Sherie, Al and Bea, Bill and Cindy and Chris and Gary for the wonderful weekend.
November 8th, the Club enjoyed its annual Thanksgiving dinner meeting at the Sons of Norway, hosted by Bill and Darlene Green and Darwin and Delores Hedin.   Travel N Fun members and guests enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner followed by entertainment provided by three Bremerton High School students.   Anne Boeck, a German exchange student, from Berlin entertained us with several classical piano solo; and Ami Tricomo and Alison Jose, duet violinists, played several beautiful selections for the diners.
December 10th, the Petersons, Sandes and Joyce Cordova will host the annual Christmas dinner at the Lodge.  Dinner is a choice of salmon or stuffed pork chops.  The cut-off date for reservations was November 26th, but if you call a host you may or may not find room.

SUNSHINE:   There are no illnesses to report.  Our thanks to Cindy for her tenure as Sunshine chair.

The 2005 outings are:  February Valentine brunch date/location TBD; March 17-20 Bremerton Elks RV Park; April 15-17 Westport at American Sunset (and crab races); May 19-21 Puyallup Elks RV Park; June 16-17; Port Townsend Elks; July 14-16 Northwest Elks Rally at Jefferson County Fairgrounds; August 18-20 Hoquiam RV Park; September 15-17 Rochester’s Outback RV Park; October 13-15 Rest-a-While and the Officer’s Outing; November 14, Thanksgiving dinner location to TBD; December 9 Christmas dinner at the Lodge.

The Bellings and Schmitlers will host the Valentine Brunch.  It is never too early to volunteer to host an outing.  If you are interested, please call Chris or Gary at 373-6416, who also welcome suggestions for 2006 outings.

The next general meeting will be Monday, January 10, at the lodge.  The meeting starts at 7 pm.  We usually gather at 6 (or earlier) for greeting.

Everyone - whether here or in the South - may your holidays be bright and full of joy.
