July 2004 Travel ‘N Fun Report Draft

“Travel N Fun Klondikers” and your regular activity reporter – Gary, are well into their Alaskan Trek, and so far, we have posted over four of their gripping and page turning weekly journal reports on our website.

Celebration Planning:  The 25th Anniversary Team continues their planning efforts for a gala celebration on August 9th.  Dick and Stella Davis, Bud and Lorraine Maves, Gary and Sherie Lewis and Darrel and Stephanie Schmittler together with Dan and Margie Harper have been successful in locating and inviting most of our past members, but need help with just a few, just call 373-2908 and let Dick or Stella know if you have any leads.

May’s outing was at perennial favorite, the Port Townsend Elks Lodge.  Hosts Dan and Margie Harper together with Frank & Bonnie Severs created “Magical” outing.  As we squeezed together with the Everett Elks RV Club, we managed to enjoy a great outing.  Many helped Port Townsend celebrate “Rhododendron Festival” and associated parade over the weekend.  Many of the Wednesday arrivals had Fish and Chips at the Elks Lodge, On Thursday Bocce Ball was popular before happy hour, then most were off to an “on your own” dinner visit to the Chimicum Café which boasts great ribs and home made pies.  The Chimicum lives up to its reputation for great food. Friday’ brought Croissant Ham and Cheese sandwiches for breakfast by our hosts, and that night’s dinner at the clubhouse was the great “Baked Potato” caper with a huge array of toppings in the. Saturday morning our hosts were again in top form with French toast with ham and sausage.  This night’s feast of roast beef dinner, veggies, rolls, and Bonnie Seevers’ famous Bread Pudding dessert served over forty folks.   The evening’s Magic Show by Dan Harper, and his team (Margie, Bill Green and Frank Seevers was superb and he left us laughing and wondering “what happened??, or, how’d they do that??”

June at Suisse Society LeBam:
By the time this hits the street we should be recalling the great outing we shared with the Port Townsend Elks Wapiti Nomad RV Club at the ever-popular Swiss Society outing at LeBam the Sande’s and Rott’s and Ann Smith are the hosts. And have planned “on your own” activities for Wednesday and Thursday, but expect the normal attitude adjustment hours and ad hoc creations for munchies.  Friday will sport coffee and breads. The Port Townsend Wapiti’s are fixin’ breakfasts for Saturday morning, and our hosts are planning a pot-luck dinner Saturday evening followed by card bingo.  Coffee and Rolls Sunday Morning will see us on our way home.

July is upon us and this year’s Rally at Hood River Fairgrounds promises to be better than ever.  Wayne and Vivian Bernhardt are our club hosts for the Rally which carries a Lewis and Clark Expedition theme.  Awards will be made for the best theme decorated site. All the games we know and love; Washues, Golf, Horseshoes, Holiboards, Bingo and Cribbage are in the plan along with a ladies fashion show with jewelry and makeup.  The Country Store hopes to bring in some revenue, and this year commercial vendors will be there too. Lots of entertainment, an optional railroad train trip, and chow are planned. We’re told we would all have “power”… Juanita has sponsored a effort to craft the glitzy “CD” sparkling “Fish” doo-dads to offer for sale as well.

SUNSHINE:  Joyce Cordova is recovering super well from her recent surgery, but Norm Savage had a bit of a relapse and should be getting out of the hospital soon.  Our prayers and sympathies are with the family of Alice Biskeborne who passed away recently.

Swing Set Raffle is well underway, and Lorene Brannon tells us sales are perking along, but we can use all the help we can get– be sure and get your ticket books, and sign up to sell on Hamburger on the Patio Saturdays (Especially during July) with Lorene – you’d still look good on Al Sande’s seat.

Hamburgers on the Patio support for May went exceptionally well, and we are told the HB on P crew is ecstatic over the two new coffee pots the Travel ‘N Fun club purchased for them. We’re back on for September so keep that in mind.

Still filling in for Gary, who by the time this hits the street continues to enjoy the wild North Country along the ALCAN (ALaskan/CANadian Highway) and Alaska’s best.

Cheers from Larry Watson,
