TRAVEL 'N FUN COLUMN

April 2006 Travel N Fun Column

Happy Birthday to Maxine Grevstad for her 90th birthday.  Don’t eat too much cake, darling.

The March outing was held in the home RV park form the 16th to 19th.  Thursday evening, many campers attended the appreciation dinner and free spaghetti dinner. Friday, hosts Al and Bea Sande, Ben and Marcella Peterson, and Ed and Lou Turner cooked up a St. Patrick’s Day feast of Irish Stew, bread and fixings.  Who forgot to wear green?  Dinner was followed by a rousing game of Card Bingo, winners to be announced next month.

Saturday, as always when we are at the 1181 park, was food – continental breakfast, hamburgers on the patio, happy hour and a potluck.  Campers headed home Sunday full of breakfast breads.  During the outing, Larry Watson helped members with their laptops and provided information on how to improve performance.

Thanks, hosts and hostesses for another great start to an outing season.

April, we go back to American Sunset in Westport, the 20th to 22nd.   Hosts are the Josephsons, Schmittlers and Goulds, who are planning a great time and good food for all.  The outing is the weekend of the crab races.

The Spongs and Watsons will host the May 11-13 outing at the Swiss Colony Park in Lebam. The Lewis’s and Schmittlers will host the August 24-26 outing at Rochester’s Outback.  The Lewis’s and friends will also be hosting our Christmas dinner at the Lodge, December 8.  Hosts are still needed for July 20-22, Bayshore RV Park at Tokeland.

Hosts for the remaining outings are:  Hood River Rally (Merle Lewis and Lorene Brannan, June 29-July 2), American Heritage for bluegrass (Blankenships and D. Gertschs, September 7-9), Rest-a-While for the Officer’s Outing (October 12-14), Thanksgiving dinner meeting at Sons of Norway (Greens, November 13).

SUNSHINE:  No illnesses were reported.  Sunshine chair Judy Gertsch may be reached at (360) 895-2304.

DUES ARE DUE.  The membership chair is Bea Sande.  Dues may be paid at any meeting or mailed to her.  If you no longer wish to be a member, please call Bea and let her know.  You’ll save her some work and us some postage.  Her phone is (360) 275-2182.

President Gary Lewis has appointed a by-laws committee consisting of Sherie Lewis, Stephanie Schmittler, Nancy Gould, Anne Smith and Chris Blankenship.

Check out the Club store. Bill Spong has lots of Elk park books, flags, flag-holders and pins for sell at discounted prices.

Anne is chairing the Club’s Hamburgers on the Patio committee.  Travel N Fun cooks and serves in May and September.  The May roster is full.  We need a historian and editor (The old scribbler has been penning your column for nearly seven years.)

Sherie is organizing the Rally book sales and store for 1181.  Bring your books to a meeting.  Paperbacks preferred, but everything welcome except magazines and encyclopedias.  If you can not make it to a meeting, leave them in the Lodge cloak room, clearly marked for Travel N Fun.

The Bellings, assisted by the Davis’s, will chair swing set raffle sales.  Sales for the raffle will start in late April with the raffle to be held at the Lodge’s Family Picnic.  The swing set is being crafted by Darrell Schmittler.

The next meeting will be Monday, April 10 at the Lodge.  Greet at six, meet at seven.

Apologies for any misspelled names or other errors.  Your editor will be out of town the week of May 8th and will need a stand-in to prepare the column.

If you have any questions, news or comments, call 373-6416 or email gardawg@msn.com.
