OCTOBER 2005 TRAVEL 'N FUN COLUMN

Our sympathies to Bob Heistand for the loss of his brother, Loren; and to Stephanie Schmittler for the loss of her mother, Mona Clarke.

A small band of intrepid 1181 travelers visited the Hoquiam RV Park 18 to 20 August for a fun, relaxing outing along the river, bluegrass music and class.  The hosts, Don and Patti Meyers and Cliff and Sharon Lillybridge served elegant potluck dinner and  breakfast of our favorite, biscuits and gravy with eggs, with linen and candle table service and fresh flowers.

September 15 to 17, another hearty band of campers ventured to Outback RV Park at Rochester.  Hosts Joyce Cordova, Al Packard and Vern and Lorretta Rott served dogs, baked beans and tater salad for dinner; and of course, the RVers trekked to the casino for dinner and games.

October 13 to 15 is the annual Officer’s Outing at Rest-a-While in Hoodsport.  There will be a catered dinner, the price $13 per person, cash or checks payable to Travel N Fun 1181.  There will be one potluck (Is Chris cooking gumbo?), and the hosts are cooking Sherie’s famous one-skillet breakfast.

Sherie and Stephanie will assist campers in flower pot painting; and there will be a two-day push poker tournament – four quarters to buy in (the extra for the second round pot).

November 14 is the annual Thanksgiving diner meeting at the Sons of Norway.  Your hosts will be Bill and Darlene Green.  The cost per dinner will be $15.   Call Darlene at 360-377-5021 to sign-up.

December 9th will be the annual Christmas diner at the Lodge.  Hosts will be the Lewis’s and Schmittlers.

SUNSHINE:  There were no reported illnesses for the month.  If you have Sunshine, call Gary Blankenship at 360-373-6416 or Judy Gertsch at 360-895-2304.

The nominating committee of Dick Davis and Gary Lewis reported a full slate of officers, elected at the general meeting by unanimous ballot:  President – Gary Lewis; Vice President – Stephanie Schmittler; Secretary – Nancy Gould; Treasurer – Ann Smith, Wagonmasters – Gary and Chris Blankenship; Trustee at large – Darrell Schmittler.

Current president Sherie Lewis will be a trustee by By-laws.

(This is Gary’s second pass as President.  He previously served in 1997 and 1998.)

Sherie is looking for three members to be the audit committee.  Please call her at 360-692-6505 to volunteer.

The new spiral-bound rosters will be distributed at the October (and follow-on) general meeting.  There will be no general mailing.

Bill and Darlene again filled a Hamburger-on-the-Patio roster for the club for September’s burger gourmets.  Thanks, guys,  for coordinating the cooking and to everyone who cooked and served.

Darrell will be constructing another swing set for raffling in 2006.  We can expect another world class glider and table.  As this year, the winning ticket will be drawn at the family picnic.
