Travel N Fun May 2006

Our sympathies to the family and friends of ex-member Norma Pugh for their loss.  Norma and her husband, Floyd, served the Club for many years.

A special thanks to the hosts for our March outing – the Sandes, Petersons and Turners; and they would like to thank all of the campers who helped clean up and with dishes after Friday’s great Irish Stew.  The big Card Bingo winner was Bonnie Seevers; Lou Turner tried to take it all, winning two pots.  Marcella brought a difficult and aggravating puzzle – mostly peas, green peas.  Thanks to Stella? Davis and Norm Fallehy, the RVers finished it much to the surprise of most attendees.  Over the years, we’ve had several outstanding potlucks; but the one at this outing has to be in the top three, at least for the last few years.

April 20 to 22, Travel N Fun journeyed to American Sunset RV Park in Westport for a weekend of fun and food provided by our hosts the Josephsons, Schmittlers and Goulds.  The hosts served Sam’s (or Ivar’s?) Clam Chowder and Kathy’s great spinach salad before the campers played several rousing rounds of L R C.

The Spongs and Watsons are hosting the May 11-13 outing at the Swiss Colony Park in Lebam.  There are planned closures for H-101 during the next few weeks, so check the road status.  The H-6 route from Chehalis may be better.

Merle Lewis and Lorene Brannan are once more our hosts for the Northwest Elk’s Rally, this year at Hood River Fairgrounds June 29 to July 2.  Lorene has the rally applications.  The cost is $125 per rig plus $15 per night for extra nights.  An ice cream social, pig roast and steak dinner are among the planned events. Peggy and Jim Brooks have indicated an interest in hosting the July outing at Tokeland.

Remember to bring your books to Sherie Lewis for the Rally book sales and store.  Paperbacks sell best, but all books except magazines and encyclopedias are welcome.

SUNSHINE:  Chair Judy Gertsch reported injury and illness for Bill Spong and Leonard Biskeborn.  Judy may be reached at (360) 895-2304.

Members may get their ticket books for the swing set raffle from Sam and Karen Belling at any time.  The raffle to be held at the Lodge’s Family Picnic.  The swing set is being crafted by Darrell Schmittler.  The raffle is Travel N Fun’s main fund raiser.  Proceeds have supported upgrades to the Home Park, such as recent installation of heat in the restrooms, and improvements to the Lodge, such as purchase of a window.

Members surprised Jerry and Eileen Drumm at the March 25 Hamburgers on the Patio.  The Drumms have relocated back to Bremerton from sunny Hawaii.  Jerry was president in 1995.

The next meeting will be at the Lodge, Monday, March 8.  Gather at six, and the meeting at seven.

This is my last column for Travel and Fun.  After seven years a replacement as stepped up to continue reporting club events to members.  Barbara Fallehy will be your new editor.  She may be reached at 360-405-9141 or nfallehy@earthlink.net.

Thanks for allowing me to inform and entertain you for these many years.
