July Travel N Fun Column

Our sympathies to the family and friends  of (ex-member) Bill Henry for their loss, and to the Lewis Schmidt, Janice Watson and (past-president) Dave Wesseler families for their losses.

Rain – rain – rain and then more rain pretty much describes the May outing at the Puyallup Elks, but rain can’t 1181 campers from having fun.
Headquarters was the back bar.  From there Travel and Fun trekked to the Lodge’s Wednesday dance, Thursday bingo, Friday Karaoke (apparently, Bea’s special talent), Sunday brunch, Meeker Mansion, and Main Street Market – despite the weather.

Saturday was Travel N Fun’s Casino Night – horse racing, blackjack and card bingo.   (Attention IRS), Bill Spong was the big winner with $9700 with Merle Lewis and Joyce Cordova a nose behind.  (Shall I tell the taxman that they only won play money?)

The outing was hosted by the Brooks, Sandes and Davises.  They and the RVers send a special thanks to Puyallup for their hospitality and support.

June 16 to 19, the Club traveled to the Port Townsend Elks for more great Elk hospitality – dinner at the Lodge and Hamburgers on the Patio.  Saturday, the hosts – Gary and Sherie Lewis and Darryl and Stephanie Schmittler – prepared breakfast.  After a day of stuffing registration envelopes and other Northwest Rally preparations, the campers enjoyed a potluck and Card Bingo.  Winners will be announced next month.

Merle and Lorene Brannan are our hosts for the Rally at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds the 14 to 17th.  At the Rally, Travel and Fun will serve strawberry shortcake to welcome campers, raffle a BBQ donated by Merle, run a 50-50 rally, hold holiboard games, and generally have fun.  Janice Watson and Lorene are repairing baskets for the Rally gift drawing.

Our Country Store booth will be limited the Spong’s “flag and patches” booth and a book sale.  We are looking for paperbacks – romances and westerns do best – but will take anything but encyclopedias.  Either bring your books to the rally or leave them in the Bremerton Lodge cloak room labeled Travel N Fun books.  Bea and Al are coordinating the sale.

Now’s the time to prepare for the August 19-21 outing at the Hoquiam RV Park, hosted by the Meyers, and the September 15-18 outing at the OutBack Park, Rochester.  Joyce Cordova and Vern and Loretta Rott are hosting.

Bill Spong is making arrangements for Travel N Fun to have a non-scheduled outing the weekend of the August 7 Lodge Family Picnic.  Contact him if you are interested in bringing your rig to the park the picnic weekend.

SUNSHINE:  Illnesses were reported for John Grevstad, Marvel Letellier and Nancy Gould.  If you have any sunshine, call Judy Gertsch at 360-895-2304 or Gary B at the number below.

DUES ARE STILL DUE.  If you wish to mail your dues, send them to Kathy Higdon, address in the roster, phone 360-830-3974.

Members, please bring your swing set money to the July meeting.  Dick and Stella are always looking for folks to sell on Hamburger Saturdays and at the Family picnic.  They report we have covered costs, including purchase of BPOE 1181 Lodge Window #4.

Bill and Darlene Green wish to thank everyone who cooked and served during our month at Hamburgers.  They will be back in August looking for September volunteers.  Thanks, Bill and Darlene, for gathering the burger/bean slingers.

Gary Lewis and Dick Davis form the nominating committee for 2006 officers.  If you want to nominate a friend, let them know.

Frank and Bonnie Seevers wish to sell their  24 foot Four Winds motor home (2000), slide-out, like new - and at a great price.  For details, call Frank at 360-373-4977.

The July meeting with be the third Monday, the 18th at the shelter for our first summer potluck.  Arrive at five (or earlier) to meet and greet, dinner at six, the meeting at seven.

August’s meeting is also a potluck at the shelter, the 8th – same times and back to the regular Monday.  By the way, your editor thinks there are never enough pies.

If you have any questions, news or comments, call 373-6416 or email garydawg@msn.com.
