JUNE TRAVEL N FUN COLUMN

Sadly, we’ve recently lost two of our own. Jean Durkee and Dick Miller passed away in May.  Our sympathies to Al Durkee and family and friends of Jean Durkee, and to Natalie Miller family and friends of Dick Miller for their loss.

Have you ever seen rain heavier than Friday, April 15th?  Those of us at Westport were ready to put to sea – with animals two by two. But we had a great time anyway.

May 19-22 we traveled to the Puyallup Elks for an outing hosted by the Brooks, Sandes and Davis’s.  Although the lodge didn’t have cooking facilities for RV’ers, we managed just the same.  Some made dinner on Friday at the Lodge, and/or Hamburgers on Saturday. The Meeker Mansion and a visit to the Puyallup Farmers Market offered diversions. Games as usual, with a Casino night on Saturday (Not the Kentucky Derby, but we had fun “horsing around”.

June 16-19 takes us to the Port Townsend Elks, the outing hosted by Gary and Sherie Lewis and Stephanie and Darryl Schmittler.  The Club has a Buffet on Friday, and they are planning a Card Bingo on Saturday evening along with a potluck.  Come prepared to stuff envelopes and do other Rally prep work.  A deposit for $12 for the first nights stay must be sent to the Port Townsend Elks by the end of May to reserve our spots, please contact the Lewis 692-6505 if you have any questions.

Gary Lewis has agreed to run the 50/50 raffle at the Northwest Elk’s RV Rally; all tasks with a taskmaster.  The Rally is July 14-17 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.  Lorene Brannen has registration packages. We need popular books (No encyclopedias please) to sell at the Country Store – See Bea and Al Sande.

Don and Patti Meyers will host the August 18-21st outing in Hoquiam,. The September 15-18 at Outback RV in Rochester will be hosted by Joyce Cordova and Al Packard. Thanks to you all for stepping up to the plate…

SUNSHINE:  There is none to report.  If you have any, call Judy Gertsch at 360-895-2304 or Gary B at the number below.

ATTENTION, PRICES REDUCED:  Flags are $6 instead of the usual $9 and 5 flag holders are $6 instead of $8.  Prices will be good until the 16th of June.  The Spongs are also taking orders for sleeved sweatshirts crimson for $32 each and vests in cream or gray for $34.

DUES ARE DUE.

Dick and Stella Davis (373-2908) have swing set raffle tickets for members to peddle to family and friends.  We would like to thank the Lodge Office for the great job it is doing selling these tickets. The tickets are selling like hotcakes, but of course they still have tickets, and encourage you to help them on Saturdays Hamburgers on the Patio days to promote the project.

The hamburger chairs, Bill and Darlene Green, report that they have staffed the schedule and we are on track.

The next general meeting is June 13 at the Lodge.  The meeting starts at 7:00 pm.  We usually arrive early for to nosh and talk. There will be an Officers meeting at 5:00 (before the June 13th meeting), membership, flags/badges/patches, rally , and lodge projects committee chairs are also asked to attend.
